The Facts Are...

While those who vape believe they are being less harmful to their bodies if they use e-cigarettes as opposed to tobacco cigarettes, they are unfortunately deluding themselves. Both types of cigarettes contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance, as addictive as cocaine or heroin, which is also a poison used as an insecticide.  Yet, because vapes don’t contain those nasty chemicals found in cigarettes and they come in cute, fruity flavors like “watermelon mint” and “bubble-gum”, kids and adults believe they can’t be as harmful.  But they are. It’s just that the research has not yet caught up with the volume of products – mostly pushed by the Chinese into our US markets that are not being regulated.  It is not widely known that the most popular vape products contain vastly more nicotine than found in a pack of cigarettes.  Keep in mind that as little as 50 mg of nicotine can kill a person weighing 150 pounds, but some vape products contain as much as 5,000 puffs of 5% nicotine which is equivalent to the amount found in 25 packs of tobacco cigarettes. And this is what is being marketed to our kids…

Here is some of what we know about the effects of vaping on the body:

Long-term vaping leads to chronic lung disease and asthma as well as causes impaired blood vessels that leads to cardiovascular disease.

Vaping raises blood pressure.

Vaping causes damage to all organs, not just the heart and lungs.

The particles inhaled cause inflammation to the throat and irritation to the lungs. Which can cause scarring and narrowing of the tubes.

Chemicals found in vapes include:

·      Flavorings which have their own sets of ingredients. Some chemicals to help the flavorings adhere to the liquid, such as, Diacetyl. This chemical is used to adhere popcorn to its flavorings. But it is meant to be eaten, not inhaled. So people are now getting what is called “popcorn lung” because that same chemical is now coating the lungs of vapers.

·      Nicotine – among the most addictive substances on the planet

·      Cancer causing chemicals like acetaldehyde and formaldehyde

·      Chemicals that cause lung disease such as acrolein, diacetyl, and diethylene glycol.

·      Vitamin E acetate that can cause lung injury

·      Metals like nickel, tin, lead, and cadmium

·      Ultrafine particles that get lodged in the lungs

It is time to get informed and raise awareness.  You can’t solve a problem you don’t know you have.  Denial is not going to get you to Egypt!
